2 days zagora desert tour

Marrakech to M'hamid 2 days desert Tour

MARRAKECH TO M'HAMID TOUR ITINERARY:

Overview:

The 2 days tour to M'hamid is the best option to visit the desert and the dunes, even though it doesn't compare to Merzouga or Chegaga dunes, it's still a lot better than Zagora, apart from the awesome attractions all along the road to M'hamid, you can actually see relatively big dunes and appreciate a wonderful sunset and sunrise and enjoy a beautiful atmosphere with the nomads.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate - Draa valley - Zagora - M'hamid

Morning departure by 4x4 to Mhamid, crossing the high atlas mountains and driving along the ancient caravan route, arriving in Agdez in time for lunch. In the afternoon our sahara desert experience continues through Draa valley and Zagora. Once we arrive to Mhamid the gate to the desert you will ride camels for about an hour and a half. Enjoy the sunset from the top of the highest dune over the distant mountains, before the camels take us back to the bivouac of nomad tents for dinner and a night’s rest.

Day 2 : M'hamid - Ait benhaddou - Marrakech

If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight. After this, it’s back in the vehicle and set off to Ait Ben Haddou, a beautiful kasbah, often used as a movie location for Hollywood blockbusters like Gladiator starring Russel Crowe. We have lunch here before making the drive back over the Tizi-n-Tichka pass and back to Marrakech.

Highlights:

  • Enjoy the beautiful landscapes between Marrakech and Zagora
  • Drive through Tizi n Tichka Pass of the High Atlas Mountains
  • Visit the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou
  • Visit Taourirt Kasbah and Film Studios
  • Drive through the Draa Valley, past palm trees, Kasbahs and desert oases

Fantastic trip to Zagora and Imlil

Amazing 2 day trip to Zagora from Marrakech

It was an amazing and unforgettable trip to the beginning of the desert in Zagora. Although it was a very long drive on both days, it has never been annoying to sit in the car as our driver Ismail made various stops and showed us incredible places!! The restaurants for the lunch breaks have been chosen very well and the food was amazing! Our local guide in Ait Ben Haddou has a very a good knowledge about the city and showed us also very interesting things in the new city! Besides, the chosed desert camp was amazing. We had lovely evening with traditional food, a small fire and interesting stories about nomads life! The camel ride has been a lot of fun! I could just recommend this agency and especially Ismail as a guide! I'll definitely come back to Morocco and will do another tour with this agency!

Unique experience

My partner and I signed up for the 2D1N Zagora stay as we did not have time to go for the longer / farther trips. We almost didn't get to go, as there were floods the day before we flew to Morocco, which rendered the roads impassable. We were sorely disappointed, and asked to be kept updated of the weather conditions. Lahcen was prompt in his email responses, and we were very glad that the roads opened up the night before we were to leave. Our guide / driver Adil arrived early at our riad, and we set off at a good pace. He was fluent in a number of languages, including English and told us geological and historical information during the trip. We stopped at places of interest such as Aït Ben Haddou. Stops and meals were well timed. The 1.5 hour camel ride took place before the sunset and the view was atop a sand dune. Bring a scarf and shades to protect your face from the flying sand. The camp was interesting, with private tents which stayed at a comfortable temperature despite strong winds outside. Bring water as it is not provided at the camp. The bed I was on was sandy, and pillow cases slightly stained. I guess it was acceptable as it was in the middle of the desert. The food and hospitality by the Berber hosts were good, considering that it was in the middle of the desert. Toilet facilities were clean and decent. Also protected from the cold. There was cold / warm running water from the showers and sinks. Remember to bring towels as well for the shower! We woke in the middle of the night and saw beautiful stars, including the Milky Way. The next morning, we were also given the option of waking for the sunrise before the camel ride again back to our vehicle. All in, a very enjoyable experience, including the camel rides.

Overnight Marrakesh Zagora

The Overnight in the desert was an unforgettable experience for us. We travelled with Marrakech Day Trips and our guide Ibrahim was extremely polite, professional punctual but enough friendly to make the most of this trip. He was very patient answering all the questions and giving us enough time to stretch our legs every time that we needed. He was doing the extra mile telling us about the culture of the country. He never pushed any shopping situation and gave us always the best advices to enjoy every moment of the excursion. The overnight was with Caravan du Sud and the Berber guides made the party in the camp and the camel ride a very comfortable moment, these gentlemen sorted all our needs. The food is very cheap and tasty, the staff of restaurants was always pleased to serve us. In our way back we could visit Ait Ben Haddou, Heritage of Unesco and the guide contracted from this company gave us a great experience. I would like to clarify that all of them were speaking English perfectly as well as French and Arabic, even some of them could express themselves in Spanish. The company is very keen with the quality and actually is offering a superb service with honestly and lovely temper. Of course we will repeat ASAP but choosing a longer trip.
